First steps
Contact the practice to arrange appropriate antenatal care. Have the date of your last menstrual period available if known, and tell the practice about important medical conditions or medication.
Common early symptoms
Nausea, breast tenderness, fatigue and mild cramping can occur. Symptoms vary widely and their absence does not by itself indicate a problem.
Early scans
An ultrasound may be recommended to confirm location, dating or viability depending on gestation and clinical circumstances. The timing is individual.
Medication and health
Do not stop prescribed medication without advice. Discuss supplements, chronic conditions, previous pregnancy complications and any current symptoms with your clinician.
Seek urgent medical care for heavy bleeding, severe or one-sided abdominal pain, shoulder-tip pain, fainting, severe weakness or any symptom that feels like an emergency.
